PATIENTS’ RIGHTS

  • You have a right to know your diagnoses after consulting with a doctor whether you see the doctor in private practice or public hospital or clinic.
  • Ask the doctor to write down your medical diagnoses( it is not acceptable for the doctor to say to you,” you have poison in your stomach”).
  • You don’t need to have an injection after seeing a doctor. Don’t insist to get an injection as some doctors will simply inject you with water and then charge you for the injection.
  • Tablets and injections have the same effect, however, injections tend to work faster and the doctor can decide based on your condition whether you need an injection or tablets.
  • Always ask the doctor about the details of your operation, what they found after the operation.
  • Some doctors conduct unnecessary operations just to charge you.
  • You have a right to request your blood results or any investigations.
  • You have a right to request a referral letter or summary of your illness if you are moving to another city or if you would like to change your doctor.
  • You have a right to be seen by a specialist of your choice not a friend to the doctor who sees you initially.
  • You have a right to seek a second opinion if you are not happy with your diagnoses
