Mrs. Andiswa A. (Mankayi) Sitole
Clinical Psychologist
Andiswa Amelia (Mankayi) Sitole (MA Clin. Psych, Rhodes University, 2003) is a clinical psychologist in private practice. She has extensive clinical psychology experience which spans over a decade in the public health sector, university and community engagement. She has worked in various clinical contexts ranging from community outreach clinics, Thuthuzela Care Centre (TCC), general hospitals and specialised psychiatic institutions as well the Fort England Maximum Forensic Unit. This exposure equiped her to manage various mental health issues holisitically and in context by being cognisant of the determinants of health particularly among the Black South African community.
In 2005 she joined the Department of Behavioural Medicine on a Joint Heath Establishment post between the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health (KZNDOH). Her appointment entailed provision and management of psychological sercives at three hospitals within the Durban Complex, intern supervision as well as lectures to medical and health sciences students. Prior to that she did her community service at East Griqualand & Usher Memorial Hospital (EGUMH) in Kokstad where she was the only psychologist for the entire Sisonke District. She was thus instrumental in the establishment of a Psychology Unit at EGUMH.
Andiswa is a former committee member of the Division of of Psychology in Public Service (PiPS) a division within the Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSA). Her areas of interest include trauma; virginity testing implications for survivors of sexual trauma; psycholegal work; HIV/AIDS and albinism. She has done oral presentantions at the PsySSA congress and co-authered a chapter on Grief Counselling.
